Search Tools for Adoptees If you are trying to find your missing mother or find your missing father, there are plenty of online search companies you canuse, like Veromi to look up addresses, phone numbers, age and even a list of other relatives.
Besides hiring a company, there are other online tools that can assist you. Here is a brief description of some, courtesy of adopting.org:
- Read Shea Grimm's Search Series, the most comprehensive introduction to searching on the Web.
- Register with the International Soundex Reunion Registry (ISRR). This should be the first step in your search process. It is the oldest and largest reunion registry of its kind. If you have already registered, consider registering again if you have any new information. You can request a free registration form via mail or telephone. The contact information is: ISRR, P.O. Box 2312, Carson City, Nevada 89702.
- The Adoption Registration Coalition (ARC): a grassroots volunteer coalition of adoptees, birthparents and others who have been touched by adoption. They are dedicated to promoting the use of the ISRR for reuniting adult adoptees and birthparents around the world.
- The Coalition for Adoption Registry Ethics (C.A.R.E): was created in response to the need for standardization of policies and procedures of online reunion registries. It is the goal of C.A.R.E. to provide a way for the online searching adoption community to safely and effectively search for birth relatives online without being exploited for profit. It is also a goal of C.A.R.E. to help educate the online searching adoption community about the effective use of registries, particularly the ISRR
