Where to Find Divorce Records Can Vary From State to State
Be aware that when looking for divorce records, where and how you may find them can vary from state to state.

Do not assume that the rules in one state pertain to another. Do your research by looking up where to find death certificates in each state and contacting the state to verify the information before spending time searching.

For example, in Massachusetts, divorce records are found in the county probate court where they were filed. Also, divorce records are generally filed in the county where the couple lived as man and wife, not necessarily where the couple last lived at the time of the divorce. In Florida, you will find a divorce record at the Office of Vital Statistics. However, if the divorce happened before June 1927, you will find it from the clerk of the circuit court in the county where the divorce was granted.
